So, my nephew had to do the Accident & Emergency dance yesterday…

I have a new dream. I build a system like the ancient switchboards of yore, manned by all girls because that's how it is for some reason, and when one hospital emergency room says to a patient Hey you, you gotta go to the A&E in the town over, they got them specialists and stuff? and instead of just making you drive over to a piece of shit place that's FUCKING CLOSED they can do this revolutionary new thing where they can have their medical secretaries pick up a fucking phone, and find out if anyone is home and save everyone a lot of grief.

Hell, how about a big wall full of buttons, and they good press the button of the hospital they want to refer to, and if the light doesn't turn green, guess what genius, it's FUCKING CLOSED and they can say to the patient that they can sit back down in the waiting room instead of contributing to the untimely demise of the planet by driving back and fucking forth. Maybe this thing called the internet might even be useful, who knows.

Like, I don't mean to complain. I love our Health Service, and it's been gutted and crucified endlessly this past decade, but seriously? Why had no one fixed this problem? Why does it even exist? What the fuck, honestly???

In other news, I've watched the first two Rocky movies and enjoyed them even more than I was expecting. I had no idea Sylvester Stallone wrote these movies himself? I don't indulge in sports movies very often, even though I love them as much as any other kind of movie -- they're usually amazing underdog stories! -- so I kind of forget that they can be so deeply character based.

I've also made some terrible impulse purchases lately. One was a fountain pen that I sadly decided was not for me and returned, or tried to -- ugh, I will spare you a rant about the fucking Post Office, it would be much less charitable than the one above -- but I also bought a Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen, and some Staedtler fineliners. I...didn't exactly have the intention of taking part in Inktober, except for some wistful hopes and way too many anxieties. Still, I've printed off a drill sheet that I'm really enjoying doing -- I'll do a couple of squares when I'm feeling upset or generally out of sorts, and it's pretty soothing. I've even started to get the hang of changing the pressure between thin and thick strokes!

Relatedly, I have finally discovered that you can follow tags on instagram? So now I get to look at lovely #botanicallinedrawings so that's an improved my experience of that terrible app.

And speaking of botanicals, we had a visitor in our garden last weekend! A squirrel came along and absolutely massacred one of our sunflowers for its seeds! Sat there for ages and left a mess behind! And then it even ran off with a whole flowerhead! It was amazing!

What an excellent squirrel! I congratulate you on your charming visitor.

I love those pen drills, too. And I'm glad you enjoyed your movie!
