The elevator is fun too! I did it on my second playthrough and there's some extra interaction with the characters that's quite cool.
I think for now I'm mostly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ about it, but maybe by the time they finish all the games I'll be able to tell whether I liked it or not. I think mostly it depends on what they do with it.
Yeah, I agree a lot will depend on what happens in future installments.
