Things have been really difficult the past couple of weeks :(

I keep wanting to make a post about stuff, but I can't seem to get my thoughts in order, and then they just get more muddled up and too big and difficult to talk about.

I feel like I could probably answer questions though? Does anyone have… anything specific they'd like to know about?

UPDATE 06/02/2020

[personal profile] enemyofperfect asked How are things going with the new hearing aids you mentioned a couple of weeks ago?

It's been very up and down!
Some not so good stuff: the autosense program is… not great for me; one of them presses oddly against my ear canal, and actually made the skin split! it's healed now, but it can still be a bit irritating if I'm not careful how I put it in; speech isn't as clear as I would have liked; I still rely heavily on lip reading and subtitles; can be very overwhelming if more than one person is talking -- previously in group environments speech would all dissolve into sleepy making white noise (^_^;) I live an all or nothing life, I guess.
Some good stuff: people don't need to raise their voice so much to speak to me; they're slightly less annoying to wear; can hear more stuff; I did tell my audiologist at my check up the other day about the autosense being a bit disorienting, so we set a program that will stick to just one environment type without it autoadjusting, so I'm looking forward to how that will work out (spoilers, I'm already preferring to use that for listening to music, watching youtube etc)

[personal profile] enemyofperfect asked What's made the last couple of weeks hard, if you feel comfortable talking about it?

Oh boy where do I start:
- consistently feeling like I'm failing at my goals, and generally not being able to stick with things
- my writing process going entirely awry for chocolatebox, I don't know how that happened and I'm massively disappointed with myself… goddamnit I just realised I forgot to track any of my editing time.
- pisspoor time and attention management
- snowflake challenge was… really more draining than I expected, wow
- a lot going on in January -- three family dinners, two appointments, chocolatebox, snowflake challenge

[personal profile] theseatheseatheopensea asked What about your top 5 songs? And top 5 books?

This is timely! I've been listening to music more than usual while testing out my hearing aids. These aren't top 5, so much as random faves.
Jon Hopkins - lost in thought somewhat recent(??) chill fave
Usher - you make me wanna ancient r&b fave
Half Alive - arrow most relatable lyrics
The XX - into a classic
Faunts - das malefitz/ ouch these feels

Books are a bit more difficult…
The Martian - Andy Weir, made me laugh so much when I most needed it
Embedded - Dan Abnett, checked out of the library multiple times, still harbour secret dreams of turning it into a comic, or a video game, or a tv miniseries…
Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury, you know what, I barely remember what happens in this book now, except I remember feeling absolutely shook by it, clearly I should read this again
Winger - Andrew Smith, possibly the only book that's ever made me cry, like seriously I had to put the book down and just process because holy shit there's a knife in this book
To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee, tough to fill the last spot, but I'll give it to another classic that I came to late and ultimately devoured and really missed when I was finished

[personal profile] wheatear asked If you don't mind something light, how about a traditional game of shag, marry, cliff?

Why would you want me to cliff any of these D': This is such a difficult question D':

Aerith [shag] adorable, and I have a sudden desire for sex in a field of flowers
Tifa [marry] business owner, can kick anyone's ass, soft but not too soft, also pettable hair
Yuffie [cliff] how dare you steal my materia D':

Ardyn [cliff] champion grudge holder, how can you trust someone who wears so many layers
Sephiroth [marry] being sarcastic about people we don't like and playing with his hair all day
Vayne [shag] he's kind of hot in a broody aloof way?

Ignis [shag] seems like a man who knows what he's doing and takes pride in a job well done
Noctis [marry] big palace, infinite monies, but also grew into himself really nicely, also pettable hair
Prompto [cliff] but only because I have no read on what he'd be like in bed or as a life partner, and apparently these are my choices D':

[personal profile] sideways asked What made you pick your journal name?

Once upon a time, my three platforms, livejournals (first), A03 (second), and tumblr (third) were all 'loveandthetruth' from Bon Jovi's bed of roses. Livejournal died, and A03 changes are weird, but tumblr lasted long enough that I felt I grew out of that one and I picked with this one some help from a tumblr friend, from some dialogue in Skyfall. After Eve Moneypenny is told to take a shot that hits James Bond and, for all appearances, the two of them get in some lovely banter about it, chiefly:

James Bond : [about getting shot] In your defense, a moving target is harder to hit.
Eve : Then you'd better keep moving.

It was kind of… well, first of all, it sounds cool, and second of all it sort of spoke to me about the way that not only do I have to dodge life's various cruelties but also trying to hit any goals of mine when life is making everything difficult by not being neatly lined up for me. The audacity.

[personal profile] runicmagitek asked I know you do a bunch of D&D stuff - do you have a favorite race and class? Is there a class you haven't tried yet that you'd like to?

I do! I'm dying to play my half-elf paladin that I began creating almost as soon as I got into Critical Role. She feels very personal to me because I kind of created her at a time of my life where I wanted to be… better. A half-elf doesn't really belong in either world, which is how I feel, and a vengeance paladin who inherited a deity from her mentor that she doesn't really believe in, doesn't really believe anything, except trying to be better than they were, less angry, and doing the right thing whatever it takes.

That said, I've grown to love druids after playing one for two years. The sheer power they can access! I like rangers and rogues too, they have the same fringe feeling that half-elves do to me, plus bows! daggers! And monks can do some really cool shit too. Sometimes I wonder if I could multiclass a character, what I'd pick, but you'd have to get through a few mushy levels before you get to the good stuff, and then you'd never get your class capstone powers or skills (unless you homebrew levels past 20 and just keep going forever which would be amazing) so I can never decide.

Do you do any DND stuff? [eyes emoji]

This was really fun you guys! Please feel free to ask me follow up questions if you'd like.

I have to credit my boyfriend with that one, seeing he's the one who suggested it :D definitely a lot of fun! At some point, I want to compile a post with all my OCs (tabletop and video game characters) and record their adventures 💕
