This is difficult because I have a really hard time with my memory, but let's see…
- I'm pretty sure the first fannish experience I had was going on gameFAQs back in… mid 2000s? to devour the gamescripts of Metal Gear games prior to Metal Gear Solid.
- I feel like I remember finding out about fanfiction poking around Quizilla?
- But my first real foray into actual fandom was finding Fiction Alley and reading Harry Potter fanfic there. Pity about Cassandra Claire, because I absolutely adored the Draco trilogy. I once tried to print it all out and bind it by hand.
- I don't remember how I got to making a livejournal account, but that was when I first actually participated in fandom -- Merlin -- writing my first fanfic, taking part in a comment fic campaign, and a big bang!
- I've never been a single, or even main, fandom kind of person, but when I got to Tumblr it was even easier to fandom hop.
- I got back into gaming in 2015, I think? and every fic but one since then has been a video game fic.
- I can't even remember how I ended up taking part in chocolatebox 2017, putting down offers almost at random, but I had a fun time writing for a prompt I didn't think I could work with. Last year I gave it another try and came out with five fics that I'm really proud of.
- Now I've been on dreamwidth for a year, and I'm trying to make more fannish friends, find communities, and take part in fun things like this challenge?

Oh I recognise a bit of my own history here: printing out favourite fics, the trouble of remembering the origins... I went digging through old files on my PC 2 years ago to find out where it all started and it seems for me it was the Lord of the Rings and (Harry Potter soon after).

Challenges really helped my fannish productivity as well - as soon as I got the courage to actually sign up for one. It's been making for a fantastic fannish experience since.

Ah, LOTR! I had no idea how big or old a fandom it was until The Hobbit first came out. Now that you mention it, I do vaguely recall looking for some fic post Return of the King? Or maybe I stumbled upon it by happy chance...

Yeah, fandom always tends to be older than one thinks. I saw screenshots of old Star Trek zines online a couple of years back and it made me feel all reverential.

I like video game fic. It has so much potential, like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Age.

Last year I gave it another try and came out with five fics that I'm really proud of.

Right? All those characters, all those sidequests and plot mechanics you want to make narrative out of, all those little snippets of party banter...
